In most cases, the “Nisab” is equal to 87.48 grams of gold and 612.36 grams of silver. When one’s wealth is equal to or more than this specific amount, it becomes obligatory upon him or her to take a portion of their wealth and give it as charity for distribution to eligible recipients, including the poor and needy.

Intentional breaking of the fast is $1080 (feeding 60 poor people) per day
If someone intentionally eats, drinks, or has intercourse during a fast in Ramadan without a valid excuse, they must:
– Free a slave (not applicable today).
– Fast for 60 consecutive days.
– If unable to fast, then feed 60 poor people (each person must be given about 1.5 kg of staple food or its monetary equivalent).
